BOLTON’S senior rounders side drove home a first-innings’ advantage of 25 to takes the spoils at Bury Sports Club last Friday.

The 178-155 victory over Bury was the latest of the inter-league series, with the final match to be played next weekend.

The home side batted first and made a good start with Carol Beswick scoring two, followed by Nic Bentley and Jenny Stubbs each with a rounder, but three failed to score and two were dismissed on the first round.

Claire O’Reilly was Bury’s top scorer with 18, finishing with two consecutive rounders before being caught.

Aimee Greig was one of the batters to have “no score” on the first round, but redeemed herself with a rounder next time round and went on to be last batter, denned for 11, as Bury finished with 83 for the innings.

Bolton had Kerry Anderton and Lisa Latona caught out at the first attempt, but Tammy Kennion and Rachel Foreshaw both scored rounders and Kennion added another rounder next time round.

Rachael Price, Sharron Buller and Victoria Gavin scored rounders on the third round then Foreshaw on the next to become top scorer and last batter with 22.

Kennion (16), Toni Morton (12), Buller (11) and Gavin (11) also recorded double figures as the visitors powered their way to a total of 108. Bury had mixed fortunes at the start of their second innings with Kayleigh Mayo and Karen Trippier scoring rounders, but four batters were dismissed without scoring.

Sarah Tennant scored Bury’s only other rounder and was eventually denned for 16 along with Mayo, who was top scorer with 18.

Trippier’s rounders helped her to double figures with a total of 14 as Bury ended their innings with 72, setting Bolton a target of 48 runs to win.

The home team’s hopes were raised when Price was restricted to one and the next two batters were caught out, but the remaining batters all scored on the first round.

Price and Buller were both out at first base and Morton was caught out on the second round, for one each.

Bolton’s prospects did not look good, but Foreshaw, Latona and Gavin stuck in to keep the visitors’ hopes alive.

Gavin was hit out for eight, Latona scored a rounder before being out at first base for 17 and Foreshaw was denned for 17 to take Bolton to 70 and a 23-run victory.

The “Golden Girls" teams will play the final inter-league game of the season at Bury Sports Club on Friday.

There are five unbeaten section leaders in the Bolton League and four sections headed by teams that have lost just once in the first 12 weeks of the season.

At the other end, three teams have yet to win and in Section J Darcy Lever C have no points after two were deducted for conceding a match.
