RUGBY players from Bolton were involved in World Cup extravaganza on the streets of Bury recently.

The Webb Ellis Trophy, the Rugby Union World Cup completed its tour of the North West this week and was welcomed to Bury by a demonstration of the Haka by four Maori ‘warriors’ but within minutes of them starting they were joined by nearly a hundred Bolton RUFC, Aldwinians RUFC and Bury RUFC Junior Club members.

Hundreds had turned up to see the Webb Ellis Cup with a surprise guest appearance by Bill Beaumont.

Bolton Junior Club Deputy Chairman Peter Gore said "It was a proud moment for Bolton Rugby Club when our junior members rushed out to do the Haka, they have spent weeks training and the hard work definitely paid off."

"Special thanks to Eraina Smith, John Kelly and our friends at Bury RUFC for making it such a success”.

The event at The Rock was a great way to advertise Rugby Union and the Bolton Juniors and Coaches were amazed by how well the whole event went. To see so many young rugby players on the Television news was tremendous and was a positive message to encourage others to take up Rugby Union.

Rugby is a great all-inclusive sport that anyone can get involved in Bolton RUFC are having an Open Day on September 13 and everyone is invited, with rugby training for five to 16-year-olds starting at 10 till noon then lots of fun afterwards with Mascots, music, bouncy castle and not forgetting the famous Kadoo Eliminator and assault course to mention only a few thing that will be going on.
