BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club member Declan Fisher travelled out to Subotica, Serbia for the 2015 European Cadet Freestyle Wrestling Championship representing Great Britain in the 69kg category.

It was Declan's first major championships, with this the first year he was eligible to compete in a continental cadet championships.

Over the past few years Declan has wrestled well across the UK, winning the national junior championships in the past three years, and placing first in an international tournament in Latvia at the end of 2014.

Coach Craig Pilling said: "Declan had a tough draw in the first round wrestling Kristian Kovacs from Romania.

"He put up a very strong performance and was winning the match in the last 10 seconds drawing 8-8, having scored the last point, was in the lead.

"His opponent regained he lead in the last second winning 10-8.

"Although Declan didn't progress this was a strong performance against a top level European wrestler in his first cadet European Championships.

"Declan was disappointed as he felt he should have won the match which would have secured a top 10 place in Europe.

"We are all proud of his performance at the club and hope that he can learn from this experience and return to next years championships to compete again. At only 16 years of age he has a very bright future in the sport and we're confident this experience will help with his development."
