BOLTON United Harriers completed their table-topping Northern League season in style with victory in their home fixture on Saturday.

Needing just two points to secure a promotion play-off place, they earned all six available by winning the fourth and final track and field fixture of the Northern 2WC Division.

The got 390 points, just two more than second-placed Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde, and will now compete at the play-off against the other Division Two champions including Sheffield, Liverpool and Gateshead in Doncaster on Saturday, August 22.

If they are successful the seniors will make it a hat-trick of promotions after both junior teams’ success earlier this month.

For the endurance squad, the fourth race of the Astley Park four-mile trail series in Chorley doubled as the sixth round of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix.

With a smaller squad than usual of 23, BUH&AC extended their lead at the top in the Team A (584 points over Leigh), Team B (623 points over Burnden RR) and Veterans’ (195 points also over BRR) tables.

A podium position in the women’s standings was also consolidated – just 41 points off Astley & Tyldesley’s second-placed, but 252 ahead of Swinton.

Of the 244 field, Karl Darcy collected silver 26 seconds behind Tom Carson.

Tommy Harrison, Simon Dally and Scott Crompton formed the winning race day team – just one point in front Leigh (31pts).

Nicola Cartridge led the sixth-placed women’s team with an individual seventh, which also featured Donna Cooper, Olivia Kearney and the returning Lea Taylor.

Elsewhere, Ken Fowler led the way for the Blue Vests at the Blackpool Air Show 10K by clocking 41:01 (27th overall), whilst fellow Northern Masters (NVAC) counters Paul Turner 42:06 (38) and Eric Ranicar 44:36 (56) were also on show.

John Grimshaw continued his return with 49:37.

Andrew Doyle completed the Gladstone fell race in 1:28:23after the Capernwray Tri in 1:06:15 in midweek (9:07 swim, 35:02 bike and 19:23 run).
