BOLTON United Harriers sprinter Hannah Kelly has become the Under-15 200m Northern Champion after destroying the field by 0.42secs in the final.

The young sprinter clocked 26.05secs in the final in Middlesbrough, after earlier setting the fastest time in qualification to underline her dominance in the event.

Kelly’s team-mate Georgia Lever also collected a medal at the Northern Championships, after finishing third in the u17s long jump, with her jump of 5.24m falling just 4cm short of a gold medal.

Les Hall, who coaches the pair, was understandably delighted with his athletes’ performances.

He said: “Merely qualifying for the champs is an achievement in itself, so to emerge with two medals for the Blue Vests is superb.”

Two more of Hall’s charges competed at the event, with u17s sprinter Anna Chadbond finishing fourth in the 100m final, and Taiwo Taiwo twice clocking personal bests in finishing sixth in the u15s 100m.

Elsewhere, Phil Marsden battled to fourth place in the Pilgrim’s Cross Fell Race hosted by Rossendale Harriers, with Andrew Doyle 16th and Nick Howarth 83rd.
