NINE primary schools from Atherton and Tyldesley took part in the Year 5/6 Rounders festival at Meadowbank School.

St George's Central, St Stephen's, St Richard's, Holy Family, Meadowbank, St Michael's, Tyldesley Primary, St Ambrose Barlow and St Philip's all brought teams of children to take part in the event which was organised by the Atherton and Tyldesley Sports Association.

The schools were divided into three groups with the top team from each group, and the 'best-placed' runner up from across the three groups, met in a semi final match.

In group one, St Ambrose Barlow were the group winners and progressed to meet Holy Family from group two in the first semi-final.

Meanwhile in group three, St Michael's were the group winners and progressed to meet St George's Central, best placed runners up, in the second semi-final.

Holy Family won their semi final match and went on to meet St. Michael's in the final.

In the final match, St Michael's proved to be too strong for their rivals from Boothstown as they went to win to become the 2015 ATSA Year 5/6 Rounders champions.

Mark Grogan, lead teacher for ATSA, said: "I would like to thank Meadowbank for allowing us to use their facilities to host this event. Thanks also to the staff from Meadowbank who umpired this event."
