PHIL Eccleston was in dominant form for Burnden Road Runners at the Fleetwood Half Marathon, finishing a strong second in tough conditions.

Eccleston posted a time of 1hr16mins46secs, 3:21 behind the first-placed runner.

Kirsty Normanton was the leading Burnden female, finishing 57th overall and third F45 in 1:35:38, a few seconds behind Lee White (1:35:23), who was the second Burndener to finish.

Two members were attempting their first half marathons. Martin Twining completed the race in 2:21:05 and Gillian McGowan’s amazing progress continues with a time of 2:54:12, with Christine Pendlebury running with her the whole way to post an identical time.

Other results: Paula Pilling (1:42:36); John McMyler (1:42:44); Paul Barlow (1:43:44); Paul Christie (1:59:06); Liam Christie (1:59:11); Sarah Sutcliffe (2:07:11); Jeff Pendlebury (2:32:32).

Peter Whiteside took on the Rochdale Half Marathon and completed the course in 2:20:40, running consistently throughout and posting splits of 33:11, 1:09:50 and 1:43:33 on his way to the finish line.

Colin Faulds completed his first race in a Burnden vest after recovering from calf and hamstring injuries at the Pendle 3 Peaks Fell Race.

The 9.7-mile course begins in the village of Barley at the foot of Pendle Hill, takes in three of Pendle’s toughest fells and incorporates 2,800ft of climb. Faulds finished 48th out of 151 with a time of 1:52:43.

Mel Walker and Steven Yates were the club’s representatives at the Birchwood 10K in Warrington, Walker finishing second V70 in 45:41 with Yates close behind in 46:10.

Burnden’s female runners again took the spotlight in the latest race in the Horwich Jubilee Series around Rivington.

Kirsty Normanton, Katy Thompson and Anne Ferguson took the ladies' team prize. Normanton was fourth female runner home and first F45 in 34:02, Thompson was 11th female runner and fourth F40 in 37:52 with Ferguson close behind in 12th and first F55 in 38:21.Their consistent performances over all the Jubilee races (along with Shirley Staveley in previous ones) saw Burnden also win the series ladies' team prize.

Steve Nolan again led the club’s contingent home, finishing ninth overall and first V55 in 30:06, followed by Lee White, 18th overall and second V40 in 31:38. These two runs plus great efforts from John Turner (33:58) and Craig Philpot (37:34) saw the men placed third in the team standings.

Jackie Oakes (38:24), Clair Marland (45:13) and Nicola Hardy (46:38) completed a great night for the club.
