DAVID Looker and Paul Ramsden of Breightmet are still in the hunt to complete the double as they reached their semi-final stage after steering a victory over Turton’s Ian Spencer and Ed Hutton in the quarter finals.

However, the 2014 winners of the BGA 4-Ball Better Ball competition now meet two powerful pairings of Mark Latham and Carl Blackshaw of Hart Common who reached their semi-final having disposed of Neil Richards and Chris Fillingham of Bolton Golf Club.

The holders will have both home advantage and a good handicap allowance against the Hart Common pair but it will be a tight match against Latham and Blackshaw who could spoil the Breightmet party.

The other semi-finalists are Westhoughton’s Ian Hargreaves and Matt Oakes.

They earned their place when they overcame opponents David Liptrott and Ian Cranshaw of Great Lever in the quarter finals.

They now meet Breightmet’s Stuart Janson and Simon Harper who made their way to the semi’s following a victory over the strong Horwich pairing of Josh Ashton and Brian Sherbourne.

A BGA official said:“This only the second year of this new BGA knock-out competition which brought 52 entries this season and the winners will have played a total of six matches all for the entry fee of £10.”
