BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club are celebrating success at the Wigan and Leigh Open competition.

The event was a smaller scale competition that the wrestlers were able to use as a warm-up after the summer break.

The side won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the event which saw the side finish third in the team trophy.

Among the highlights included: Jack Costello, Freya Johnson and Abdullah Hussein winning gold while Kamran Stodard and Lucy McGrath were runners-up in their category.

Also getting their hands on some silverware were Timmy Costello, Nathan Livesey and Hamza Hussein.

Coach Craig Pilling said: "The juniors wrestled well gaining some vital experience.

"There were two other good results as Harvey May finished fourth while Grace Costello didn't have any girls to wrestle so went into the boys weight category giving up two years in her age and 3kg in weight but she did really well scoring points in only her second competition.

"They will now look forward to the Scottish open competition in Tryst, Cumbernauld on September 19, and then they have the British Junior national Championships held in Welshpool on August 4."
