FOLLOWING the League Final at Westhoughton, the BGA 4-BBB Knock-Out Match-play Final saw Hart Commons’ Mark Latham and Carl Blackshaw beat Breightmet’s Stuart Janson and Simon Harper 4&2.

The game was closely fought for the first eight holes with neither pair able to establish a solid lead.

However, Mark Latham proceeded to sink a huge putt across the 9th green for an eagle, to go 1-up.

This provided the catalyst for the Hart Common pair as they played the next three holes in one-under par to sprint into a three-up lead.

Overall, the Breightmet pairing struggled to show their form although a marvellous birdie, nett eagle, from Janson on the tough par-four 13th hole, provided a brief glimpse of what might have been.

However, Latham and Blackshaw were too strong on the day and it was Latham who provided the final flourish by driving the 280 yard 16th hole to close out the match 4&2 against the Breightmet pair.

The competition started in April with when 52 pairs of golfers entered the BGA 4BBB championship.

Six rounds later, the last two pairs met in the final.

A BGA spokesman said: “This new competition – in its second year – has been a growing success and we hope to increase entries again next year for what is an excellent knock-out competition for all BGA Club members.”
