BOLTON Senior Colts were centurions for a day after their impressive 107-5 victory against Aldwinians Senior Colts.

The Avenue Street men were quick of the mark as captain Josh Holmes put Adam Kazmi into space and he outpaced the covering defence to score under the posts giving Tom Hill the easiest of conversions. Holmes added a brace of tries of his own as the home team got on top and moved their opponents around the field.

Charlie Hardern then out-paced and out-muscled the defence to score after gathering Holmes’ chip and Joel Thompson’s angled run against the grain saw him score untouched as he powered through the visitors’ pack.

Jacob Walker also showed a great touch on the ball combined with some power runs and influential work around the breakdown.

Mason Lockley rounded off the first half with a hat trick of excellent scores to maintain and improve his try-a-game ratio.

Tom Hill kept up impressive record with the boot with eight from eight conversions and at half time the score was 56-0 to Bolton.

In the second period Bolton shuffled their resources and James Sykes took over at fly-half after he finished the first period at scrum half.

Debutant George Carbery also entered the fray for his first taste of club rugby.

Connor Orrell who was immense throughout resumed the scoring after just two minutes and over the next half-hour Bolton ran in a further eight tries.

Joe Partington and Elliot Williams both added a brace and Carbery scored on his debut and looks a great prospect.

His try was rewarded by a great response from the team and supporters but the biggest cheer of the day went to Jacob Walker as slotted home a drop kick to improve Williams' first score.

Aldwinians’ determination and resolve was rewarded mid way through the half when they powered over after yet more aggressive defence turned the ball over in the Bolton 22m area. A try that was well deserved.

Bolton bounced back and with Joe Partington, Ryan McClusky, George Weston and Jordan Ashton leading the way in defence the visitors didn’t get a second opportunity for points.

In fact it was impressive how well Bolton defended across the team and were disappointed to not have kept Aldwinians from crossing their line.

The best try of the second period saw Mason Lockley burst through the centre but was stopped by a superb tackle from the Aldwinian defence.

He popped the ball to Joey Gore who was tackled immediately but flipped the ball to the supporting Tom Hill who outpaced the defence to score in the corner and make his points total for the day 25.

Harry Kay again impressed and it was his secure play that led directly to a try and Nathan Riding Farrell had a great game taking over at hooker.

Jordan Ashton unfortunately couldn’t get his name on the scoresheet despite being within a whisker of scoring and he also put in a performance of class both in attack and defence.

The scoring was rounded off by two late tries by Gore who made it 17 tries shared between 11 scorers and took the final score over the 100 mark.

Plaudits go to all the Bolton team who played the game in the right way and to our visitors from Aldwinians who did themselves proud.

However, the final word needs to go to Carbery who scored on his debut and impressed all his new teammates.

Well done to both teams and Bolton will look forward to something of a backlash which we are sure we will receive when we visit Aldwinians later in the season.
