FOURTH-placed Forrest E got off to a flyer in their Bolton Badminton League C Section clash against Deane, winning the four first games.

The first couple of Elaine Powers and James Wallen won 21-10, 21-16 against Deane’s second pair of Abby Waring and Shuresh Pindoria, before Georgina King and Jack Hamer won their two games 21-13, 21-16 when they played Deane’s first couple, Jayshree Patel and Kanti Mistry.

But the tables were turned when the third couples played.

Deane’s Samantha Robertson and Pravin Pindulia won two comfortable games 21-13, 21-14, against Stef Hill and David Travis.

When the first couples met, Forrest restored their lead, Powers and Wallen having two convincing wins against Patel and Mistry, 21-12, 21-7.

But Deane hit back again in the second couples' clash, Waring and Pindoria winning the first game 21-15, before King and Hamer took the second 21-14.

All the level doubles were shared, Forrest’s Hill and Powers won the first game of the ladies doubles, 21-13, and Robertson and Patel took the second 21-19.

In the first pair of men’s games, Deane’s Pindulia and Mistry won the first 21-15, and Travis and Wallen the second 21-18.

Deane’s Robertson and Waring won the first game of the second ladies’ clash 21-18 but Forrest’s Hill and King dug in to take a comfortable second game 21-10.

Although the second pair of men’s games were shared with Deane’s Pindulia and Pindoria winning the final game of the match 21-17, Forrest had already secured an overall 11-7 triumph.

In D Section, fifth-placed Westhoughton E held close rivals, sixth-placed Smithills to a draw.

The opening games were shared when the visitors, Smithills' second couple, Chris Everett and Barry Hilton, opened the scoring by winning the first game 21-16 before Gill Crompton and Geoff Everitt, Westhoughton’s first couple, took the second 21-12.

Smithills’ first couple, Lorraine Shepherd and Malcolm Rolfe won both their games 21-11, 21-13, against Louise Vernon and Darren Hough.

The third couples also shared their games when Westhoughton’s Bethany Hughes and Dave Edwards won the first 21-18, and Diane Leigh and Tony Sames took the second 21-17.

It was the same outcome when the second couples met with Smithills' Everett and Hilton winning the first game 21-15 and Vernon and Hough the second, 21-14.

After the mixed had been completed the score was level at 5-5 and the match continued to see-saw.

Smithills ladies, Leigh and Shepherd, won both their games 21-9, 21-13, against Hughes and Crompton, however Westhoughton’s Edwards and Everett also won both their games against Sames and Rolfe, 21-10, 23-21 which later proved to be the game that made the draw.

Although Smithills' Leigh and Everett won both their ladies games 21-18, 21-14, against Hughes and Vernon Westhoughton’s Edwards and Hough’s shared determination to win the final men’s games 21-10, 21-17 earned a creditable draw for their team.
