BURNDEN Road Runners grabbed third place overall and four age group wins in the Swinton 10-Mile Road Race.

Phil Eccleston led the club contingent of 30 runners home in a time of 55mins 57secs to finish in the top three.

Steve Nolan again ran a brilliant race, finishing 15th and first V55 in 1:01:11, while George Butler took the top prize in the under-20 category with 1:07:05.

Gwen Kinloch (1:09:12) and Anne Ferguson (1:18:38) took first and second in the L55 group respectively, with Lyndsay Darbyshire’s 1:11:11 earning her the L45 win.

Paula Pilling was second L40 in 1:10:04, while Anthony Foster was second home in the V65 section with a time of 1:31:28.

Eccleston and Nolan’s times, plus Rob Short’s 1:04:28, saw the club take fourth place in the team competition while Kinloch, Pilling and Darbyshire earned second-placed ladies team.

Sarah Sutcliffe, running for the first time over the distance, recorded a great time of 1:25:55 – sixth fastest in the competitive L35 category.

Ann Butler continued her triathlon development by taking on the tough Brownlee Tri at Harewood House, Leeds.

Her 22mins 15secs for the testing 750m swim, 1hr 16mins 24secs for the 26km bike ride and 37mins 34secs for the 5.5km run earned her a total time of 2:22:57.

George Butler suffered a puncture on the bike leg and had to withdraw, but managed a terrific 14:32 for the swim and persevered to complete the run in 22:52.
