KEN Warner proved you can still get faster no matter how many times you do the Bolton parkrun.

He ran a personal best time at the latest event around Leverhulme Park on Saturday – on his 206th appearance.

He holds the second-most parkrun appearances of all the regulars at Bolton, behind the most prolific, Dave Carroll, who has 218 runs under his belt.

But Warner did enough to earn this week's runner-of-the-week honours by covering the course faster than he had done in his previous 205 appearances with a super time of 22mins 16secs.

It was the first time he has experienced the buzz of a PB since September 2013 and his time was good enough for 28th position out of 275 runners.

This week there were 36 first timers, 47 recorded personal bests and representatives of 19 different athletics clubs took part.

Andrew McMenemy (SM30-34, unattached) made it a memorable first-time appearance when he was first over the line in 18:15.

Paul Freary (VM45-49) of Belgrave Harriers, was second in 18:31 and Bury AC's Paul Thompson (VM45-49) of Bury AC, was third in 18:39.

Nicola Cartridge (SW25-29) of Bolton United Harriers & AC, was first female and seventh overall to complete the course in 20:10 – the second time in her four appearances that she has been first lady.

Katherine Baines (SW30-34) of British Military Fitness, was second lady and 42nd overall in 23:22, and Melissa Thompson (JW11-14, unattached) was third female and 47th overall in 23:36.

The current standings in the men's annual points competition sees Gary Furness (unattached) top with 2,431 points, Robert Short (Burnden Road Runners) second with 2,270 and Ian Riggs (unattached) third with 2,169.

Olivia Kearney (Bolton United Harriers & AC) – who has finished top of the women's points competition for the last three years, leads it again this year with 2,723 points.

Judith Bonnar (unattached), who has been second in those three years, is in her familiar position with 2,475 points, and Helen Harper (Chorley Harriers) is third with 2,232 points.

Bolton parkrun started on February 5, 2011, and since then 5,421 different runners, including participants from 244 athletics clubs, have completed 45,212 runs covering a total distance of 226,060 km, and there have been 8,672 new personal bests.

Runner of the week: Ken Warner. On his 206th run, he scored a new personal best time of 22:16, his first since September 2013.
