BURNDEN ladies captain Gwen Kinloch ran the 10th fastest half marathon in the UK this year in her age group to claim first F55 place in the Congleton Half Marathon.

Kinloch’s time of 1hr 31mins 38secs is only just over four minutes adrift of the fastest 2015 time and cements her position as one of the top runners in her age group in the country.

It follows her brilliant run in the Swinton 10-Mile race the weekend before when she ran the sixth fastest time in the UK this year, covering the course in 1:09:12.

A total of 33 Burndeners ran at Congleton with men’s captain Lee White leading them home, finishing 48th in a time of 1:26:56, one of many personal bests registered by club members.

Rob Short and George Butler also dipped under 1:30 – Short clocking 1:29:51 and Butler 1:29:58.

Kirsty White was second F45 in 1:33:43 with other notable runs from Simon Marland, fourth M55 in 1:34:25, Paula Pilling, fourth F40 in 1:34:58 and Lyndsay Darbyshire fourth F45 in 1:39:12.

Jackie Oakes and Sally Cottrill were tackling the distance for the first time and both did the vest proud, Oakes crossing in a time of 1:54:58 and Cottrill finishing in 2:20:34.

Nine members took part in the Rivington Trail Half Marathon with two taking first prize in their categories. Keith Thomas won the V55 class in 1:31:35 while Lesley Fisher was first F55 home in 1:48:14.

Phil Eccleston continued his training schedule for the Snowdonia Marathon later this month with 10th place in the Chester Marathon in a time of 2:37:04. Marcus Taylor came home in 3:26:22.

Allison Grace ran the Chester Metric Marathon, covering the 26.2k in 2:33:31.

Dawn Evans completed the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow in an excellent time of 2:36:26.

Andy Duffy and Lesley Fisher travelled to Brownhouse Wham Reservoir last month to take part in Ron Hill’s 77th birthday 5k. Duffy was third V50 and 14th overall in 20:54 and Fisher was first F55, second female runner home and 17th overall in 21:48.
