NEVER-SAY-DIE Bolton Hockey Club ladies' 1st XI came from behind three times to earn a 4-4 draw at home to newly-promoted Ben Rhydding 2nds.

After going down to an early opening goal in the North League Division One clash, Bolton woke up and equalised with a straight strike on a short corner from Katie Bent.

The visitors then took the game to Bolton and struck twice before Ali Toft pulled one back and a powerful strike from Claire Wilson made it all square at half time.

The second half saw both teams have opportunities on goal before the away team again went ahead.

But Bolton were not to be denied and when they were awarded another short corner Bent stepped up again with a hard strike which took a deflection off the lead runner which directed the ball into the roof of the goal.

Bolton almost got a dramatic last-gasp winner when man-of-the-match Jenny Neville had a final-whistle strike saved on the post.

Bolton men's 2nds continued their perfect start to the season in North West League Division North Five North/South with a magnificent 9-0 destruction of Didsbury Northern 6ths.

Bolton raced into an early lead with goals coming from set pieces and highly impressive team passing moves.

Going into the second half with the score at 5-0 Bolton continued to demonstrate their dominance and added a further four goals.

Striker Jon Woods was clinical with five goals while Phil Johnston, Tom Underwood, Sam Mortimer and Robert Lord all got a goal apiece.

It was a different story for the men's 3rd XI in the same division as they were resoundingly beaten 7-0 by Didsbury Northern 5ths.

It was always going to be a difficult task for the local lads in their toughest game so far and with a stand-in goalkeeper.

Didsbury's strength gradually came to the fore and they penned Bolton in their own half for long periods.

Four goals down at half time, Bolton had their best spell of the match for 10 minutes after the break but could not make it count against a well-organised defence.

Didsbury came back into the game and counter-attacked effectively, scoring three more goals to seal a comprehensive victory over a Bolton side who are at home to Wigan in their next outing.
