HANNAH Kelly put in a record-breaking display to take a hat-trick of sprint titles at the Bolton United Harriers junior track and field championships.

The 14-year-old sprinter posted record times to win the 100m, 200m and 300m under-15s girls races in the ninth annual club event at Leverhulme Park.

A host of young competitors matched her performance to win three medals on an afternoon that included 10 competition records.

Christopher Wright finished on top of the podium in the u15s boys discus and hammer and also finished second in the 400m.

Heather Cade and Clemencia Longthorne starred in the u13s girls competition. Clemencia won the 75m, 1200m, shot putt, while Heather was first in the 150m, long jump, high jump and earned silver in the 70m hurdles.

Jack Kingdon was king of the track in the u11s boys event, taking gold in the 75m, 150m and 600m, while he also claimed bronze in the cricket ball throw.

In the u9s boys, Harvey Kenny won the 150m, 600m and long jump, and was edged into second place in the 75m.

While six-year-old girl Charlotte Vickers showed great all-round ability winning the 75m sprint, 600m and the long jump.

Event organiser Ian Wallis said: “Once again for the ninth year a tremendous turn-out of young athletes and some brilliant performances.

"To see six-year-olds sprinting down the track showing such determination makes it all worthwhile for our loyal group of coaches.

"Next year our 10th anniversary competition will, I am sure, be the biggest and best of all.”

In total, 102 young harriers aged from six to 14 took part in the event, which is solely for members of the club.

The championships have been a great yardstick of the young talent coming through the athletics club over the past nine years, with many going on to represent Bolton United Harriers in regional youth and senior competitions.

Wallis added: "This year, the strength of our junior section has paid dividends with both the under-13/15s and under-17/20s teams being promoted in the Youth Development League."
