TYLDESLEY men's side are celebrating after finished runners-up in the British Water Polo League Division Five.

The Pelican-based side travel to Walsall to play three difficult games against Basildon, unbeaten Portobello and Leeds.

In the first match on Saturday Tyldesley had a convincing 14-5 win.

Tyldesley took an early 3-1 lead with John Fletcher, Tyler Turner, and Adam Toone on target.

In the second quarter, Tyldesley took control of the game by scoring five more goals in reply to Basildon's one.

Oliver Rhodes scored on his debut but further efforts by Lucas McNulty (two), Tyler Turner, Addison Brown ensured Tyldesley were ahead 8-2.

The third quarter mirrored the second as Tyldesley scored five goals but Basildon were unable to add to their tally.

Addison Brown bagged a brace while John Fletcher, Oliver Rhodes and Adam Toone also getting in on the scoring.

In the final quarter, Basildon took the plaudits with a 3-1 scoreline but it could not affect the outcome as Tyldesley ran out winners.

In the second game, goals by Brown (four), Turner, McNulty, Oliver Rhodes and Rob Bond could not prevent Tyldesley going down to a 11-8 defeat to Portobello.

Meanwhile, in the final tie, Tyldesley triumphed 19-10 against Leeds.

The first quarter was very tight with Tyldesley edging it by 3-2 with McNulty, Toone and Bond scoring.

After a tense second quarter, the Pelicans edged it again 3-2 and Leyland, Turner and Bond to ensure they had a 6-4 advantage at the break.

In the third quarter Tyldesley went on a scoring spree scoring nine goals with McNulty and Brown registering hat-tricks while Toone grabbed two and Oliver Rhodes rounded off the scoring the quarter.

Tyldesley dominated the final quarter taking the bragging rights 4-2 with efforts by Toone (two) and Brown (two).

It was a great weekend for Tyldesley with the team finishing second in Division five of the British Water Polo League in their first year back in the league.
