PHIL Eccleston powered his way to victory at the Fleetwood 10K.

His time of 34min 20secs over the promenade course with great views across Morecambe Bay was a full one minute 11 seconds clear of the second-placed runner.

It came just 24 hours after he won Bolton parkrun so Eccleston’s London Marathon assault is firmly back on track.

Nine Burnden runners took on the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon. Andrew Henderson led them home in a brilliant time of 3:10:19, covering the first half in just 1:28:58 and the final 12K in 1:03:26.

Katy Thompson was next in a stunning 3:37:08, posting splits of 48:44 at 10K, 54:45 for the next 11K to give her a half time of 1:43:30. She hit 30K in 2:28:40 before completing the final 12K in a further 1:08:28.

Christophe Menand was close behind 3:46:17 followed by Marcus Chester (3:59:52) and Ben Knight (4:14:31).

Lucille Corrigan, in her first marathon, put in a great performance to finish in 4:22:32. Peter Partington was next home, crossing the line in 5:05:15.

A great run by Brenda Sedgwick earned her first place in the V70 category – just a week after she moved up to the age group – with a time of 5:49:51.

Emma Donaldson completed the Burnden representation with a time of 5:59:10, clocking 2:41:22 for the first 21K.

Sarah Sutcliffe entered in a two-runner team and completed the first half of the race in a PB of 1:51:28 to show her London marathon training is hitting a peak at just the right time. She and her running partner Lisa Carter completed the marathon in 3:45:24.

Paul Johnson and Dave Beevers ventured into Yorkshire for the Sheffield Half Marathon, a tough demanding course with a five-mile uphill start which strung the field out early on.

Johnson recorded a time of 2:17:48 with Beevers following on in 2:51:21.

The second event in the three-race Curleys 5K Series in Horwich was heralded with a torrential downpour just before the start which thankfully passed off before the gun. It did make for some extremely muddy sections, though, and more than one faller.

George Butler was the first of Burnden’s 26 runners to finish, coming 10th overall in 21:00.

Paul Duke took second V40 spot, grabbing 13th place overall in a time of 21:12.

Marcus Taylor, Isaline Pollitt and Phil Glassbrook won their categories. Taylor was first V45 and 14th overall in 21:27, Pollitt was first F50 in 25:14 and Glassbrook topped the V70 section with his time of 32:16.

Paula Pilling was Burnden’s first female runner to finish, coming home second F40 in 23:19.

Marcus Chester was third V40 with 22:40, Tony Wall second V55 with 23:09, Sue Blackman third V55 in a time of 36:12 and Louise Wall was third F50 in 36:53.

The Decathlon Duathlon attracted five members. The event, which began at the Wilton Arms in Belmont Road, involved a 28K bike ride sandwiched between two 6K runs.

Rob Short was first Burndener home, completing the first run in 24:35, the bike in 1:01:52 and finishing with a 28:01 6K for a total time of 1:56:43.

Liz McLellan was the first overall female finisher for the second year running, posting a total time of 1:57:50. She registered 25:46 for the first run, 1:00:39 for the bike and 27:46 for the second run.

Paula Pilling – who took injured hubby Rob's place after just a couple of outings on the bike this year – was sixth female competitor home with times of 26:56, 1:14:03, 27:02 for a total of 2:12:53.

Phil Holden’s time of 2:26:44 comprised runs of 34:39 and 36:21 with a bike time of 1:10:20.

John Hall knocked more than 26 minutes off his 2015 time coming home in 2:30:44. He improved his bike time by 25:08, completing it in 1:16:45. He completed the two runs in 33:33 and 35:03.
