HORWICH juniors finished an impressive 12th out of 38 at the Junior Fell Championships at Ambleside.

In the under-8s race Grace Pendlebury shone in eighth place, while Theo Middleton was 34th in the u10s.

In the u12s races Toby Middleton finished a superb fifth, a great result after being third place at the top of the climb and holding on to score valuable points for his team.

Ella Pendlebury was a brilliant third in the girls u12s race after an excellent climb against top-class competition while Freya Whittle and Lydia Johnson were 48th and 62nd, respectively.

Lucas Milliken and Robert Seddon were 16th and 25th, respectively in the u14s.

The next championship race is at Hawkswick in Yorkshire on May 7 and the Harriers’ juniors will be hoping to match or better their result at Ambleside.

On the same day not far away at Great Langdale, Gareth Booth scored a great second place overall in the Xmas Pud 10k Take Two race, with Rudolf Maciejkowicz also taking second in the M60 category.

Albert Sunter finished 38th in a field of 198 in the unique Mini Mountain Marathon – a four-hour event requiring navigation skills around Grasmere where runners visit as many control points as possible.

Mike Cayton scored an emphatic win in a record time at the Radcliffe 10k multi-terrain race, in the Central Lancs Grand Prix series.

With Lukas Siska, Dave Jackson and Richard Marlton backing up strongly in the record field of 350 runners, Horwich finished third behind Bolton United and Leigh for the team prize.

Gary Chadderton took the M50 prize.

At the Queens Park junior parkrun on Sunday Luke Brindle and Isaac Battye completed a one-two finish, maintaining Horwich’s fine record at this great new event.

Paul Muller was first of 243 runners’ home at the Lytham Hall parkrun.
