THIS week’s article will be my review of the darts I have seen this season.

I will be focusing on everything I have seen over the last eight months and a quick review of how the tables shape up with the rearranged fixtures taking place over the next week or so which will determine who will be going up and down before the summer league starts.

As well as this I will vote for my favourite matches, individual games, finishes and nights out.

Over the course of the season I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of new people and a lot of people I have known for several years throughout the Astley Bridge League and I would like to thank you all for being helpful, friendly and supportive throughout the season.

I’ve seen 10 180s in 17 matches which have featured both men and women darters and it testament to the excellent standard of darts on show in Bolton and the North West in general.

Men's Section One: It is going to be a close one between the Roundhouse Headhunters and The Dizzys who are on 290 points apiece to decide who is league winners. Thow’d Bulls and the Top Bullers look set for a season in the second section.

Individually, former Lancashire players Brian Derbyshire and Stuart Stubbs Snr have three legs between them as they look to secure the merits for the men's top section.

Mens Section Two: The Yo Yo’s will be looking to go against their name as they have dominated Section Two and stay in the top section.

Pineapple A team could also go up but with the gap between top and second it may be one up and one down from the top two sections.

At the bottom, Roundhouse Rangers are to be playing three legs next season after a disappointing campaign. The merits for the section see Glen Miller, one of the better players I have seen play in any division, lead with a couple of games in hand.

Men's Section Three: The Greyhound look to be playing in Section Two next season and are on the lookout for new players after a very impressive season, having come up in what would be their third promotion in four seasons.

It is very close for the next team coming up but Colliers Flyers and Power League have both struggled in a very high quality section. Alan Malloy has done excellently to be top of the pile in the merits but he will face competition from his team-mate Dave Hardy and Pradeep Parmar.

Men's Section Four: The Sportsman have done very well this season and have walked Men's Section Four.

Second place will be very close with just 11 points separating them and sixth place. Going down will be The Millstone after they seem to have struggled with the high standard. It looks like Tony Parkinson will be the winner of the individuals after a great season.

Men's Section Five: The Roundhouse and BUDS will be looking to seal promotion in the last few weeks after a great season in a tight bottom section. Sporty have collected just 78 points and end a disappointing season bottom of the pile in their first season but they will get better with experience. Mick Egan has had a great season and looks set to be the deserved winner of the merits.

Women's Section One: Storkers look set to win the league in an ultra-competitive section one after a great season with star player Ally Smith currently level on points with Lisa Ashton for the merit winner. Vixens, Owd Lambs and the Crafty Crofters will be hoping to stay up after a tough season in arguably one of the best ladies' division in the country.

Women's Section Two: White Horse Fillies look set to pip Alan’s Ladies to the title after an excellent season. Individually Laura Wild is a very deserved winner of the merits dropping just nine legs all season.

Greatest individual performance of the season: Jeff Partington v Barmy Army – at the time his team, recently promoted from Section Two, had not won a game and Partington needed a crucial leg to guarantee his team a win. He went up against former UK Open semi-finalist Paul Williams with Partington putting in one of his best displays of the season hitting an excellent 105 finish and a 70 finish to seal a 4-1 victory.

Greatest team performance of the season: Firefox v Stork Tavern was a classic. Two great teams with some unbelievable players; anything felt possible. I remember watching the 25 legs with some great finishes. Ste Plummer produced the highlight of the night, hitting a 115 finish to seal a 12-dart leg after hitting 121,140 and a 125.

Greatest finish of the season: Duncan Palin v Sportsman, Palin hit a great 122 finish for the White Horse, hitting treble 20 single 12 dead bull with his opponent sat waiting on a double.

Best night out of the season: I like cider. I really like cider. I had a great night out at the Three Crowns earlier in the season having a night on the town with the players of the pub and their opponents from Breightmet and Tonge Conservative Club.

With the season drawing to a close I am not finished yet. I will be speaking to Darren Bentley, the man at the helm of the Triple D League which involves teams throughout Bolton and Horwich. We will be discussing the league and how it is different from the Astley Bridge League.
