BOLTON will be in the boxing limelight again this weekend on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, according to trainer Joe Gallagher.

Superstar Amir Khan takes on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the biggest fight of his career in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning with Bolton-based Anthony Crolla defending his WBA World Lightweight title at the Manchester Arena hours earlier against Ismael Barroso.

Crolla trains at Khan's Gloves Community Centre in Halliwell under Gallagher's stewardship and the man voted Ring Magazine's Trainer of the Year for 2015 says it again underlines the fact Bolton is the home to champions of the sport.

Gallagher, who also trains Bury super bantamweight star Scott Quigg at the Prince Street gym, told The Bolton News: "It is another big night for boxing and a big night for Bolton.

"You have Amir facing Canelo on a huge fight for him and then Anthony Crolla defending his world title on home soil in Manchester.

"It is great for Bolton and for the Gloves gym to have fighters from there taking on the world on both sides of the Atlantic.

"What a night it would be if both could win – it would make more good headlines for boxing in Bolton."

Crolla makes the first defence of the title he won last year as top of a bill that also includes three more fighters from the Gallagher's Gym camp at Gloves.

Liverpudlian Paul Smith takes on Daniel Regi in a super middleweight clash, light heavyweight Hosea Burton faces Michal Ludwiczak, while Callum Johnson is also in light heavyweight action against Richard Horton.

Meanwhile, Marcus Morrison will fight for his first pro title against Brazilian Jefferson Luiz De Souza for the vacant WBC International Middleweight crown.
