THE 2016 Inter-Counties Fell Championship saw three Harriers in the counting four finishers for the Greater Manchester team which took third place over a demanding 12.8km distance and 915m ascent Snowdonia mountain course. 
In the individual race Ben Mounsey from Calder Valley won for Yorkshire but RMI’s Chris Farrell was less than two minutes behind in sixth place. 
Alastair Murray and Simon Pymm backed up Farrell and Tom McGuinness (East Cheshire Harriers) to secure the bronze medals for the GM vests. Alastair Murray added the bronze to the Inter Counties silver he won seven years ago. 
Elsewhere Toby Middleton showed his great potential as a fell runner by taking fifth place in a strong field for the latest round of the junior English fell championships at Malham. 
In Blackpool Paul Muller took second place on the track in Saturday's Lancashire AAA vets championship 5000m and the following day won the Blackpool Beach 10k run, proving he can cope with any number of running surfaces.
Nearer home on Saturday, the RMI Harriers had a one-two in Bolton United Harriers’ Last Drop Loop fell race where Gareth Booth was the winner, just ahead of Dave Jackson. The race also served as the Northern Masters fell championship and Jackson took the M45 gold medal. Tony Hesketh and John Parker won gold medals for their age categories. At the other end of the age range in the Lancashire AAA track and field junior championships Christopher Ash won the u15 bronze in the 100m and 300m events. Niall Maloney, also competing at u15, reached the finals of the 200m, the shot putt and the long jump. 
On the parkrun scene Nick Leigh scorched home first in 16:27 at Penrhyn and Lukas Siska did the same at Bolton in 17:24.
