WESTHOUGHTON racer Joe Lawrence is targeting a swift return to action next month after suffering a broken wrist in his last outing at Snetterton.

Lawrence missed round four of the TSGB Pre-National 600 championship after he came off his motorbike in the previous meeting on the last weekend in April and broke some bones in his left hand as well as his wrist.

But he is targeting a return at his 'local' track at Oulton Park on July 1 and determined not to let the blow sideline him any longer.

The 27-year-old said: "We went to round three with high hopes after a great debut on the JDL Racing Kawasaki, getting a fourth place and two fifths.

"I went out on the first session with the idea of learning the track as we hadn’t been there before.

"The first impressions were good and it looked like it was just up to me to learn the track.

"Unfortunately after completing three laps, I lost rear grip coming on to the back straight and I had a big high-side throwing me from the bike on to the track.

"I sustained a broken wrist and snapped fifth metacarpal in my left hand and it put us out for the weekend and we missed round four at Cadwell due to the cast only coming off on the Thursday before the meeting.

"Luckily the bike wasn’t too badly damaged and we have managed to get it ready again.

"I am currently in the oxygen chamber three times a week and undergoing physio to make sure that on our return at Oulton Park I will be in full fitness and ready to fight at the front once again.

"I have to thank all of our sponsors, friends and family for all of their support and for helping get the bike ready for Oulton."
