TOM Lancashire's hopes of appearing in a second Olympic Games appear to be over.

The Bolton middle distance star was sent crashing to the track while leading in Sunday's Olympic trials in Birmingham.

Lancashire, who has battled back to close to his best form after injury and illness problems, was leading the 1500m race in which the top two finishers would earn a place to Rio as long as they had run 3mins 36.2secs twice before July 11.

The 30-year-old had been impressive in the heats on Saturday and was looking good in Sunday's final which he was leading on the back straight of the final lap until he was clipped by eventual winner Charlie Grice, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the track.

Lancashire, a Bolton Harrier from Bromley Cross, may still have a slim chance should the authorities consider giving him the third spot. But he would have to run the qualifying time twice in the next two weeks.
