MEN'S doubles first seeds Chris Nott and Charlie Foley cruised into the semi-finals of the Bolton Tennis Championships men's doubles last night with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jack Castledine and Lucas Taylor.

Their opposition will be Steve Darlington and Mark Hartley who also had a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 quarter-final win against Chris Blackshaw and Jordan Halsall.

Though Darlington has lost his singles title he still has two chances of winning an event.

As well as the men's doubles he is in the semi-final of the mixed doubles with Lisa Jackson after they had an impressive 6-4, 6-0 victory over Peter Leatherbarrow and Kate Mansfield.

The handicap ladies' round robin event completed last night when Hawkshaw's Emma Emery, playing in her first singles event beat the other three entrants.

On Friday she beat fellow Hawkshaw player Nicola Cunningham 6-0, 6-2, followed on Monday night with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lostock's Sophie Gill and ending with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over another Lostock lady, Natalie Sweet.

The ladies' singles semi-finals also completed last night when past winner Rachel Branagan was pushed hard by Louise Taylor but came through 7-6, 6-4.

The other semi-final between number one seed Amy Hadjinicolaou and Haley Warrington was in the third set at the time of going to press.
