NUMBER two seed Jonny Shacklady cruised past Chester's Ben Clarke 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final of the men's singles in the BSF Bolton Tennis Championships.

His opposition will be determined today.

A number of competitors are still in three events, meaning the best players in the tournament are starting to face each other on all fronts, playing a lot of tennis, in some cases three matches a night.

In the handicap men's doubles, junior couple Matthew Cavalier and Ben Tinniswood had a notable two-set win – 6-2, 6-2 – against Longsight St Catherines' experienced pair Dave Gregory and Rob Lister.

Markland Hill pair Phillips Fulchini and Sarah Shacklady eventually won a thrilling ladies' doubles quarter-final in three sets against Lostock twins Louise and Laura Taylor.

The game spanned two days. Fulchini and Shacklady won the opening set 7-5 on Wednesday night but the Taylor twins hit back to take the second set 6-3 yesterday, only to lose out 6-4 in the decider.

Josh Sabery and Ewan Smith are performing well in the handicap events, as they have done in recent years.

They have reached the handicap doubles semi-final as a pair after beating Dominic Kneafsey and Mike Smith 6-3, 6-2.

Smith was also due to take part in the handicap singles semi-final against Adam Thompson last night.
