BILLY Bromilow continued his long dominance of the Chorley club championship when he claimed his eighth title.

The perennial top performer beat Craig Middleton on the 17th, 2&1 after a close encounter.

The 55-year-old Bromilow, who has smashed the Chorley records during his reign as the club's number one player, said: "I would love to get into double figures but I recognise that the new talent developing at the club will not make it easy.”

Bromilow has also moved into the senior ranks and has already made his mark in the Lancashire team with a brace of successful outings.

He was a Lancashire county player in his youth and much later became the Lancashire County team captain.

Over his five-year stint in the role the team secured four Northern Counties championships to reach the England finals and were successful in two.

Bromilow has been an established top player in Bolton for almost four decades, winning three BGA Championships in 1980, 1987 and 1990 and also finishing runner-up on several occasions.

He is currently the Bolton Golf Association team captain and brought success when his team secured an away win against the Sheffield Union at Doncaster in May, only the third time they have won away in the fixture since 1965.
