TRAMPOLINIST Alex Bradshaw bounced back from an injury-blighted season in 2016 to become double gold medallist at the recent British Championships.

The 16-year-old former Thornleigh Salesian College pupil had to relinquish his national title last year after missing the championships with an ankle injury.

But Bradshaw returned to what he considers to be his rightful place after setting a new best score to win individual gold in the 17-18 boys category at the finals in Liverpool's Echo Arena.

And he added a second title in the synchronised discipline with partner Rhys Northover, who he jumped to a bronze medal alongside at the World Championships in Denmark last November.

"I was really happy with the result, because last year I was unable to compete at the championships," said Alex, who started out at Bury Trampolining Club before recently moved to the City of Salford club.

"Coming back and becoming British champion again was a massive achievement for me.

"I'm so thankful for my family, coaches and team-mates who supported and helped me."

This year's British Championships were brought forward from September, when they are normally held, to July to double up as a qualification event for the Rio Olympics.

Winners in the men's and women's competitions were chosen for the British squad.

Bradshaw has set his sights on making the step up in 2017, competing in the senior men's division a year early, aged 17, as he bids to gather as much experience as possible with a view to competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

He is already a seasoned international after competing in the GB junior squad.

As well as winning bronze at the World Championships last year he also helped Britain to team bronze in the European Championships in Spain in April.

Mum Catherine said: "We were so pleased and proud of Alex at Liverpool. He has not had the best of seasons and has had his GCSEs to contend with as well but Alex has shown he can pick himself up and achieve his goals."
