FARNWORTH Cricket Club and Cherry Tree Primary School have teamed up to provide children with the opportunity to receive some top class cricket coaching.
The Bolton Cricket League club's professional, and ex-Sri Lankan international player, Dinuka Hettiarachchi, is coaching children aged between 8 and 11 at the Highfield Road school.
"We are always excited when we can work in partnership with the community to provide our children with new opportunities and experiences, " said Matt Rayner, the school's key stage coordinator.
School sports coach, Rachel Parker, added: "Dinuka is a fantastic coach. It’s obvious he’s a top-class player and the children love his sessions."
Farnworth Cricket Club are currently looking for junior players to join their under 9s, under 11s and under 15s teams.
The school report the children's cricket skills have improved a lot in a short time and they and the club are hoping some will decide to develop their interest in the game further by training at the Lavender Road club on Friday evenings at 6.15pm
Hettiarachchi is available to coach children at other local schools and he is also organising a summer coaching camp at Farnworth’s ground.
