LEE White led Burnden’s representation at the third of the Horwich Jubilee Five-Mile race series over the finishing line in Rivington in a time of 31mins 59secs to finish in 14th place overall.

A total of 15 members took part with four claiming category wins. Keith Thomas’s time of 32:51 saw him claim 15th place overall and first in the V55 section.

Lyndsay Darbyshire was first F45 in 35:03, Anne Ferguson took the top F55 spot in 39:14 and Fiona Ashton was first F50 in 46:18. The combined placing of these three gave the club the ladies' team prize.

Ed Ashton was 16th overall in 33:08 which placed him second V50. Christine Pendlebury claimed second F50 spot with her time of 54:08.

White, Thomas and Ashton’s times, plus Laurence Keighley’s 35:19 finish, gave the men third place in their team standings.

The third race in the Harrock Hill Fell Race series, a 5.2-mile challenge with 900 feet of climb starting from Hilldale village near the Farmers Arms in Parbold, attracted 11 Burnden members.

Andy Staveley re-emphasised his superiority on the fells by leading them home in 38:25, claiming first place M55 in the process, although he was pushed hard by George Butler (second MU23 in 38:37) and Colin Faulds (39:41). Keith Thomas was second M55 in 40:14.

Lesley Fisher was first L55 in 47:17 with Anne Ferguson second in the category in 49:59.

Andy Staveley and Keith Thomas also tackled the tough Holme Moss Fell Race near Holmfirth, a staggering 18 miles with 4,200ft of ascent. Staveley was again first V55, his time of 3hrs 21mins 28secs earning him 38th place overall.

Thomas was not far behind, crossing the line in 3:42:21.
