BOLTON motorbike racer Curtis Rothwell is fast making a name for himself in the sport.

He currently leads the way in two Aintree championships and is in an impressive 12th place in the Thundersport GB series.

Rothwell, aged 27, is setting the pace in both the Aintree Motorcycle Racing Club Powerbike and Superbike classes with four race wins.

His best result to date came in the highly-competitive Thundersport GP1 and was an eighth-place finish in the last round at Oulton Park where he was up against a highly-competitive field including ex-Moto-GP star Jeremy McWilliams.

He is ahead of the field in the Aintree classes, with two wins in the last round on his 2012 Kawasaki ZX10R.

He said of that performance: "I was eighth in the first race but I wasn't happy with the rate I was dropping back. Fortunately the rain eventually stopped and the track dried. The bike was performing perfectly, giving me the chance to take the next two wins.

"Despite the poor weather conditions I couldn't be happier with the overall results of the day. I got more points and leading both championships."

The telecoms engineer from Lostock, who is supported by his dad Michael, his brother Reece, among others, has been racing for more than 10 years.

He started in the 125cc Aprilia Superteen class at Thundersport GB before moving up to a Suzuki SV650.

His best achievement came in 2012 when he won the Thundersport GB Minitwin championship.
