THREE BUH&AC runners competed over two distance stagings of the Salford Triathlon at MediaCityUK at Salford Quays on Sunday and performed well.

Nick Howarth completed the 750m swim, 20K bike and 5K run of the Sprint in 1hr 18mins 39secs. His splits of 18:37, 37:42 and 20:25, excluding the fourth discipline of transition, netted 55th of 295 finishers.

Following the open-water swim of one lap, the three laps of the bike ride were consistent around a 12:30 average, before the two laps of the run were completed in negative splits.

The longer ‘standard’ distance – double at 1.5K/40K/10K, saw Andrew Doyle clock 2:28:37 (27:47, 1:16:35, 41:53) for 61st of the 433 finishers. Alex Donnelly followed with 2:51:14 (33:15, 1:21:09, 53:22), after continuously-improving cycling splits, for 250th.

Elsewhere, Shay Walker successfully competed for the first time since April after another injury-plagued season.

It was as though he had not been away, though, after his 59:12 for the 10 miles road race as part of the annual Heckington Show – the oldest road race in the Midlands with the first being held in 1965 – placed him 11th of a 300-plus field.

In the NMAC 5,000m track championships at Leigh, Ken Fowler collected M60 bronze in 19:41.8, while Dave Tomlinson collected M75 silver in 25:03.0.
