BOLTON racing driver Chris Hodgen has victory in his sights as he prepares for the climax of the British Mono F3 Championship this weekend.

He goes head to head with main rival Ben Cater who is favourite to clinch the crown but still has plenty to do.

Hodgen starred on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in the last round to put himself firmly in contention.

He now has to outscore Cater by 12 points in this weekend's title showdown at Snetterton in Norfolk.

Thirty two points are available over the weekend's two races and if either driver has any serious issues with either their car or the race the other could capitalise.

Mono F3 is a national race series for 2.0-litre carbon-fibre-constructed formula three chassis with six-speed sequential gearboxes – basically mini formula one cars with less power.

Hodgen, who is from Lostock and runs a business in Horwich, will be looking to repeat his performance at Silverstone this weekend.

He dominated the wet first race on the Saturday to win by a commanding 16 seconds in challenging weather conditions, then backed it up with a race-long battle with Cater to finish a close second on the Sunday.

He said “The weekend went really well and we have the momentum going into the final race weekend of the season.

"I am amazed I am still even in the hunt after having to miss two races at Cadwell Park due to a broken foot, and also racing at Brands against the wishes of my medical team.

"We have really got on top of the car and wins at Spa in Belgium, Donington Park and now on the Silverstone GP track really show how far we have come with the development.

"It has been a tough year financially with my main sponsors of three years deciding to take a break, but hopefully winning the title will entice either them to get back involved or showcase us to other potential sponsors.

"I would love one more year in F3 before looking to progress to the British GT Championship."

Looking ahead to this weekend's showdown, he said: "Any issue for either of us will hand the title to the other driver.

"But me winning both races and getting fastest lap is not enough as Ben could finish second and still get 22 points meaning he would win by four, so pretty much anything could happen."
