BURNDEN emerged from the Rivington Trail Half Marathon with three age-group wins and a string of fine performances.

Andy Staveley led the way with a time of 1hr 36mins 31secs, earning him the first V55 prize – just 11 seconds clear of the second-placed Burnden runner, Colin Faulds, who recorded 1:36:42.

Lesley Fisher was first F55 in 1:47:28 and Shirley Staveley first F50 in 2:02:24.

Other notable category successes came from Keith Thomas, second V55 in 1:37:06, Anne Ferguson who was second F55 in 1:57:52 and Ed Ashton, fourth V50 in 1:39:13.

Two other members dipped under the two-hour mark.

Steve Bate crossed in 1:56:13 and Matt Barker was just over half a minute behind in 1:56:48.

Paul Duke was the club’s sole representative at the Chester Marathon and he put in a fantastic run to post a time of 3:30:05 and finish in the top 500 out of nearly 3,000 runners.

Gari Jones and Dawn Evans tackled the Metric Marathon at Chester over 26.2k.

Jones proved he is well on the way back to form with a time of 2:49:18 while Evans crossed the line in 3:19:37.

Debra Hennessey took part in the Astley Park 15k Trail Race in Chorley in aid of the Stroke Association and put in a great effort to complete the tough and muddy course in just under 90 minutes.
