TEMPEST United reserves top scorer Nick Skelly marked his promotion to the first team with a goal in a 3-1 Premier Division win against Whitehaven.

Skelly had already netted more than 25 times for the second string in just nine games this campaign and assistant boss Gary Westhead says he deserved his chance.

The striker bagged the third after goals from Nathan Monson and a Chris Farnworth header had set the hosts on their way after successive defeats in the league before a cup win against Slyne With Hest.

Westhead told the Bolton News: “We started well and played well and but for some great saves from their keeper in the first half it could have been 5-1.

"But it was 1-1 at the break and the lads were getting frustrated.

"They dominated again after the break and Chris’s goal settled us.

“Then Nick came off the bench and did what he does best, scored a tap-in after their keeper had spilled a shot.

“It was good for us after the two league defeats.”

Turton boss Neil Hart was less than impressed with a controversial penalty decision against his side that led to a 2-1 defeat at Crooklands Casuals after they had scored early through Luke Bradbury.

Hart said: “Again we got nothing from a game we dominated.

“We were 1-0 up and then just after half time, the referee gave a penalty which only he saw and it changed the game.

“They hadn’t been in it and then they were level and hit us on the break with the winner.

“It was the same old scenario for us in that we should have won and didn’t.”

Eagley were on Richardson Cup duty and won 5-4 at home to Coppull United in the first round thanks to an Ollie Clarke hat-trick and goals from player/boss Simon Whaley and Phil Eastwood.

In the President’s Cup first round, Ladybridge won 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Burscough Richmond and CMB won 4-0 at home against Mill Hill St Peters, but Stoneclough lost 3-0 at home to Hurst Green.
