SUNDAY’S action in the BSF Over 35s Football League was devoted to the first round of the Sam Ashworth Trophy which includes the teams from all three divisions.

Radcliffe Old Boys A are unbeaten in Division Two, but only managed to beat Division Three Bolton Wyresdale by the odd goal in five. Mark Collins struck twice and Gaz Clarke once for Radcliffe as Colin Jones and Dave Newbrook scored for the visitors.

Division Two side Radcliffe Vets did not fare as well, going out 4-3 to Division Three Bury Seniors. Danny Pemberton, Martin Techton and Danny Adamson scored for the home side, but a Taylor Modondo brace plus Noel Shine and Richard MacLoghlan strikes saw Bury Seniors through.

Leaders AFC Dobbies have won all five of their Division Three games and were not fazed by Division One opposition. Dave Malius (two), Rob Howarth, Lee Dickinson and Carl Lomax earned them a 5-3 victory over Mersey Valley A for whom Rob Glover scored one and Wayne Barlow two.

Queen Lizzy was another top division team to crash out of the competition when they lost at home to Old Boltonians from Division Two. Tommy Collins and Gaz Turnock scored for Lizzy, but a Fielding hat-trick saw Old Bolts through.

In an all Division One clash, leaders Hindsford Vets were pushed hard by Bar Hill JFC for whom Fisher, Hughes and Love were on target, but Dave Fashou, Matty Little (two) and Andy Heald did enough to put Bar Hill into the next round.

North Walkden have yet to win in the top division and PF Bury are still seeking their first point in Division Three, so it was no surprise the top-flight side won their encounter 4-1. Crowther scored the Bury consolation goal as John Morrison scored a brace with Mark Morris and Paul Wheeler scoring for Walkden.

Despite riding high in Division Three, Heaton Casuals could not match unbeaten Division Two leaders Astley Bridge and lost 3-1. Paul Fletcher scored a couple and Scott Hilton the other for Astley Bridge while Matthew Swailes grabbed a consolation goal for Casuals.

Home Guard Failsworth have nine points in Division Three and Mersey Valley B have the same in the division above, but the Failsworth side progressed to the second round.

Neil Roberts, Duncan Thorpe, Scott Harvey and Rob Black scored to give Failsworth victory while Michael Coates and Darren Chester replied for Mersey Valley.

Deans Youth and Ladies are having a torrid time in Division Two and their confidence suffered another blow when Division Three strugglers Radcliffe Old Boys B whitewashed them 10-0. A Ste Duckworth hat-trick, a Mark Owen double, one each from Paul Drennon, Gaz Humphreys, Lee Chipendale, Paul Deliffe and an own goal completed their miserable day.

Andy Clarke (two), Matthew Plano and Peter Howarth gave Division One side Turton Bay Mare a 4-1 victory over Elton Liberals.

The game between Ainsworth A (Division Two) and Digmoor (Division One) was level at two apiece at the end of normal time and went into extra time before Digmoor triumphed 4-2. Munro and Fitzsimmons were the Ainsworth scorers with Ian Webb, John Shaw and Craig Evans on target for Digmoor, but crucially, an own goal made it four for the visitors.
