TEN-year-old Toby Yates continued to prove he is a precocious golfing talent when he beat rivals up to the age of 18 to win a top club competition.

The Lostock youngster won the Judge Kershaw Junior Knockout at Bolton Golf Club.

The matchplay competition was open to all juniors at Bolton Golf Club and he was the star of the tournament, winning the quarter-final 10&8, beating the club's 17-year-old junior captain 2&1 in the semi-final before winning the final 5&3 to lift the trophy.

And it was not a flash in the pan for the Bolton School Junior Boys' School pupil – far from it.

In July he came third in the Under-14s Lancashire Junior Championships at Southport Old Links Golf Club against older boys aged 13 and 14, while he also recently came third in the Old Links Bolton Junior Open, another competition open to all under-18s.
