BOLTON Metro Swim Squad continue to put the town on the international swimming map after picking up a string of medals in a recent gala in France.

The team earned seven podium finishes at an annual competition for the world's up-and-coming young swimmers in St Dizier, eastern France.

It was the club's best ever performance at the gala in what was an extremely talented field, with some swimmers having gained Olympic qualifying times.

Mike Robinson, head coach at BMSS, was understandably proud of his young swimmers.

“We are delighted with this year's showing at St Dizier,” he said.

"We are a small squad competing against some top global swimmers, and we put Bolton on the map.

"Our young swimmers train hard – they show focus and determination to excel in such a competitive environment.”

Gabriel Glynn put in the standout performance, winning the 50m backstroke and tying for first place in a dead heat in the 100m backstroke.

Alisha Hogan also came home with two medals after finishing second in the 400m and 800m freestyle.

And there were bronze medals for Adam Akik (50m butterfly), Isaac Brennand (50m breaststroke) and Anna Doughty (50m open breaststroke).

Bolton Metro Swim Squad is an elite performance team that includes many of the most up-and-coming young swimmers from clubs across the town.

Robinson is always on the lookout for new talent.

He said: "If your child is doing well at a local swimming club or school team, get in touch and see how far excellent coaching and a team of winners can take them.

"The squad train regularly at pools across Bolton, and enjoy social and residential events too."
