BOLTON Hockey Club ladies' first team stormed to an impressive 5-0 victory at Didsbury Greys second team on Saturday.

The local ladies have won four games in a row, scoring 19 goals and conceding none to leave them fourth in North Hockey Women's League Division Two South West.

They went 1-0 up after five minutes when Kerry Carrinci gave them the lead, but it took them until two minutes before half time to double their lead after stubborn defensive display from Didsbury.

Impressive interchange work between Katie Bent and Hollie Smedley put Jenny Brookfield through on goal and she double the advantage.

Bolton came out of the blocks quickly again in the second half with Carrinci grabbing her second with a smart finish after being first to respond to a rebound from a powerful Vicky Dean strike.

The post and crossbar denied Bolton before Claire Wilson added the fourth, Yasmin Aldcroft’s short corner impressively saved by the Didsbury goalkeeper before falling to Wilson’s stick and she made no mistake.

Jess Stanners put in a starring performance in defence to thwart any hopes of a consolation from Didsbury before Alison Toft added a fifth just before full time.

Bolton play Sale Ladies, who are just one place below them, at home on Saturday.

Bolton Ladies' second team lost 4-1 to Bury first team to leave them third in the Greater Manchester Hockey Association Women’s Division Two.

Bolton got off to a good start, with Debbie Nicholson dominating midfield. Bury’s defence stayed solid, which paid off when they grabbed their first goal against the run of play.

Bury got a second before half time to rub salt into the wounds and left Becky Denton, Imogen Hall and Rachael Dudley disappointed after putting in a five defensive performance.

With just 15 minutes left of play, Bury grabbed two more goals to put the game out of reach for Bolton.

The ladies kept fighting until Emma Goldsmith finally grabbed a consolation for Bolton from a well-worked penalty corner.

Bolton will be hoping to put some points on the board when they play bottom-placed Glossop Ladies first team on Saturday.
