BOLTON darts pro Joe Murnan has been drawn against Welshman Mark Webster in the first round of the PDC World Championships.
The Halliwell-based 33-year-old is confident he can at least repeat his success of last year, when he made the second round on his debut at London’s Alexandra Palace.
“I think I have a great chance to get past him,” said Murnan of his first-round opponent, who is a former BDO world champion. “He is a quality player but I have beaten him before.”
Webster, also 33, switched to the PDC in 2009 after his victory in the BDO World Championships at the Lakeside.
Meanwhile, Westhoughton-born Scott Taylor was just one victory short of qualifying for the PDC World Championships for the first time.
Murnan’s 24-year-old training partner won through four rounds at the qualifying tournament before falling at the final hurdle, losing 5-2 today against Simon Stevenson.
