BURNDEN’S Lyndsay Darbyshire won her age group at the City of Salford 5.25-mile women’s race, finishing 13th overall.

Her time of 36min 10secs earned her first place in the L45 category in the 26th running of the race.

In a highly competitive and fast field, Paula Pilling was the first Burnden runner home and 10th overall, posting a time of 35:10 to claim second place in the L40 category. Elaine Roper was second L55 in 42:21.

Mumtaz Patel finished the course in 41:07, with Christine Fernon (54:54) and Dawn Evans (56:25) completing the Burnden turnout.

Lesley Fisher was second F50 and 53rd overall in 37:56 in the David Staff Memorial Fell Race – a 6k event starting in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen, and climbing more than 300m up to Darwen Tower and back down over the moor trails.

Laurence Keighley was two places back, less than half a minute off Lesley’s time in 38:23.

Anne Ferguson was third F50 with a time of 40:37 and Don Nichol crossed the finish line in 44:36.

Four Burnden members teamed up to take part in the Lee Mills Relay Fell Race at Bacup in the Rossendale Valley – a 10k route which at its peak takes runners over the Top of Leach landmark.

Paul Duke, Christophe Menand, Marcus Taylor and Colin Faulds posted a great total time of 4:09:43 to finish 35th out of 95 teams.

Duke completed the first loop in 1:02:52 with Menand next in 1:06:05, followed by a time of 1:01:07 from Taylor and a strong final loop of 59:39 by Faulds to bring it home.

Three members travelled to take part in the Wesham 10k on Saturday with Jeff Pendlebury first home in 52:41.

Mark Butler completed the course in 55:31 just ahead of Ann Butler in 55:36.

Andy Staveley was third M55 in the Benidorm half-marathon in Spain with a time of 1:27:15 while Stew Jones completed the resort’s 10k race in 42:45.
