BOLTON Under-13s made up for failing to beat Bury in three games last season with a resounding victory.

The Avenue Street boys scored 14 tries to Bury's two in a show of strength and class.

Oliver Keogh got the ball rolling with the first try from the first opening play of the game to maintain his outstanding record of having scored in every game this season.

Top scorer Leon Hodson scored a second after five minutes and the scene was set for what was to follow.

The team has a large group of forwards who are improving with each game, and Fred Holt-Gregson and Oliver Belle in the second row showed skill and strength, marshalled by the consistently impressive Levi Waite at number eight.

Scrum-half Sam McDowell dictated play with his passing from the scrum and breakdown, and the forwards provided a great platform for the backs to shine.

George Jackson also impressed and by half time Hodson and Keogh had added a second try each, with Tyler Maley getting a brace and Mark Glynn running in a well-deserved solo effort to reward an industrious performance.

Bury replied with a try and in the second half recent signing Leo Hope-Barry was unlucky not to score, Keogh got two more tries, Hodson four more to bring his tally to six, and Sam Atherton grabbed a fine try at the death.

Northwich pulled it back to 7-5 and the game became tight with Joe Carter, Morgan Smith and Tom Evans tackling hard.

The second half saw both teams playing at the top of their game, neither giving an inch.

Callum Naylor and Banks continued to drive Bolton forward, but a penalty to Northwich saw them pass out wide and score again.

Bolton hit back from their scrum on the five-metre line which saw them drive forward before passing to Baum on the left wing who sprinted over for his second try of the match to make the score 22-15.

Northwich reduced the lead to two points and piled on the pressure in search of the winning try.

A fantastic tackle by Matthew Chowdhury denied them and he, Harry Dawber, Banks, and Naylor remained strong as Bolton held out for the last eight minutes.

Bolton U12s won their first game of the season at Marple.

Euan James opened the scoring after receiving a pass from Kaiden Unsworth before Marple equalised in the first quarter.

Unsworth scored his first try of the day from the wing in the second quarter and after Marple equalised again Bolton’s stronger tackling led to two tries in quick succession from captain Nathan Robinson and Unsworth.

New boy Callum Gordon tackled hard and Bolton dominated the remainder of the match.

Jack Vickers beat off the challenge of several opponents to drive over the line, Patrick Markey was denied a try by Marple snatching the ball from the maul and Unsworth showed power and pace to score the final try.

Bolton U9s maintained their unbeaten record this season despite illness robbing them of several players for the trip to Sefton.

There were standout performances from backs Liam Jenkins and Tom Green, forward Tom Forrest and scrum-half Corey Morgan as Bolton ran out 14-8 winners.

They scored four unanswered tries, two from Morgan and one each for Green and Forrest, following great running and passing.

Sefton pulled the scored back to 8-4 at half time but Bolton pressed home their advantage after the break with two quick tries.
