FORREST A leapfrogged Westhoughton into fourth place in the Bolton Badminton League Section A with an 11-7 victory over them.

Home team Westhoughton got off to a good start when first couple Lisa Wintle and John Davenport beat Paula Wright and Will Wiseman 21-11, 21-18 in the opening games.

The second match was shared when Forrest’s first couple, Christine Seddon and Chis Mealor, took the first 21-16 and Alison Muddiman and Craig Harvey claimed the second 21-19.

In the third couples’ clash, Forrest’s Carolyn Wood and Pete Taylor won 21-14, 21-15 against Nicola McManus and Jason Lee to level the match score.

Westhoughton restored their lead when Wintle and Davenport beat Seddon and Mealor 21-17, 22-20 in the clash of the first couples.

The match see-sawed back in Forrest’s favour though in the second couples played Wright and Wiseman taking both games 21-12, 21-17, against Muddiman and Harvey to make it 5-5.

Forrest went ahead when the determined pair of Wood and Seddon comfortably claimed the first pair of ladies’ games 21-15, 21-7 against McManus and Wintle.

They extended the lead when Taylor and Mealor won the first pair of men’s games 21-17 and 24-22 against Lee and Davenport, and clinched the match when Wood and Wright won the second pair of ladies’ games 21-18, 21-19 against McManus and Muddiman.

Westhoughton’s Lee and Harvey reduced the arrears in the last match of the night when they won the final men’s games 21-15, 21-15 against Taylor and Wiseman.

In Section D, Metro B climbed above Smithills A by beating them 11-7.

Metro are now a point above their opponents and sit in fifth place, two positions above Smithills.

Smithills drew first blood in the match when first couple Lorraine Shepherd and Malcolm Halsall won the opening games 21-14, 21-18 against Metro’s second couple Jeannette Bury and Paul Topping.

Metro’s first couple, Carole Lanham and Tony Hollis, then won both their games 21-19, 21-8, against Holly Hilton and Barry Hilton.

When the third couples met Metro’s Sue Jameson and Peter Rushton claimed both games 21-19, 21-16 against Emma Shepherd and Tony Sames.

Lanham and Hollis then won both games for Metro, 21-4, 21-12, against Shepherd and Halsall.

Smithills’ Hilton father and daughter partnership won both games 21-10, 21-14 against Bury and Topping, when the second couples met.

Going into the level doubles Metro were ahead 6-4 and moved further in front when Jameson and Lanham won the first pair of ladies’ games, 21-14, 21-17, against the Shepherd mother and daughter partnership.

Metro’s Rushton and Hollis also claimed the first pair of men’s games 21-16, 21-10, against Sames and Halsall to go 10-4 in front and clinch the match.

The second pair of ladies’ games was shared, Metro’s Jameson and Bury claiming the first 21-14 and Smithills Shepherd and Hilton taking the second 21-19 before Smithills’ Sames and Hilton comfortably won the final men’s games 21-12, 21-15, against Rushton and Topping.
