YOUNG judo star Jamie Death resoundingly proved he is the best in the country at his weight and age group.

The Bolton School pupil won the British championships with a totally dominant performance at the finals in Edinburgh.

He lifted the Great British Minors title in stunning style by winning all his six fights by ippon – a straight knockout.

His gold medal came in the under-46kg category, where all competitors were born in 2005/06.

His father, Stewart, said: “We are really proud of him as he was up against fighters from all the top clubs in the UK.

"This was the biggest competition he has competed in so far, complete with an opening ceremony and bagpipes.

Jamie, who has won gold medals at competitions at Craven, Gloucestershire and Goole this year, trains three times a week at clubs in Clayton Green and Accrington.

He is also a member of the North West Squad and its Elite Talent Development section which trains three times a month in Kendal and St Helens, and he participated in a masterclass with Olympian Ashley McKenzie, who represented Great Britain in Rio.
