BOLTON Mets get their pre-season training under way tonight looking for a more positive campaign after a tough couple of years.

And the rugby league side, who play home games at Bolton RUFC's Avenue Street are opening up sessions to new blood interested in joining ahead of the new season with a first friendly match scheduled for February 11.

Head coach Al Scarbrough is starting his first full season in charge of the team and he has plans to change their fortunes for the better.

The club is entering its 22nd year and despite a struggling recently, they are committed to turning the tide and achieving success.

The committee, coaches and players are all prepared to put in 100 per cent effort to make the team competitive in more games this year and help them challenge for promotion and bosses believe new additions will only aid that cause.

Chairman Stuart Cooke said: "New players are always welcome, whether experienced or novice, as the club is looking to recruit some new blood to help improve and strengthen the squad for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.

"If you want to be a part of this revolution then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

"There is no charge for training so there is no reason to not come down and see what we're all about.

"With both tarmac and 3G surfaces being used it is recommended you have trainers and boots with moulded studs with you. Also, as full-contact tackling will be in the cards a gum shield is advisable."

The first pre-season training session takes place between 8-10pm tonight at Essa Academy, Morris Green Lane, Bolton.

Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Stuart Cooke on 07802 608256 ahead of the session, or via social media, or just turn up and introduce yourself.
