CHRIS Farrell's form continued as last year ended with victory in the Auld Lang Syne race in the fells at Haworth.

Farrell also picked up the team prize on New Year's Eve with Nick Leigh and Jonathan Bruton ahead of a strong turnout from some of the best fell running clubs from both Lancashire and Yorkshire.

On top of that, Leigh took the V40 prize, Dave Milliken the V50 prize and Steve Jackson first place for V60.

Farrell said it was one of the toughest races he had done and his result completed a fantastic 2016 for him personally.

He is clearly inspiring the Horwich juniors, too, not least Matthew Mair, Luke Brindle and Finley Reid who took on the seniors in the Lancaster 4k road race and all finished strongly in the top 20.

Lewis Wilkes almost repeated his first place the week before at Bolton parkrun but had to settle this week for second with under-14 Cian Healy not far behind in seventh place at Haigh Woodland.

At Pennington Flash over the festive period Lesley Davidson completed her 100th parkrun – all at the Flash – and has already added a further two runs to her tally.

On New Year’s Eve, the parkruns produced four more first places for Horwich with Joe Mercer at Heaton Park, Simon Pymm at Oldham, Gareth Booth at Preston and Paul Muller at Lytham Hall where he returned on New Year’s Day to do the same again.

Paul Boardman also did parkruns on both days at Haigh Woodland and then took the M55 prize at the tough 5k trail race at Whitworth later on New Year’s Day.

Also at Whitworth, Rob Jackson was fifth overall and won the M50 prize with Graham Schofield taking the M60 prize.
