BOLTON parkrun will go ahead on Saturday.

The weekly 5k run around Leverhulme Park was cancelled last week due to construction work affecting part of the course.

Officials did not have enough time to plan an alternative route for that event but have done so for this Saturday in case the work is still in progress.

The work affects the steep uphill section known to parkrunners as 'Cruella' where drainage and resurfacing work is taking place.

The alternative route planned for this Saturday avoids that section.

It starts and ends on the running track as usual but the start will feature two laps of the track instead of one.

Runners will then exit the track at the gate near the football pitches as usual and follow the normal course to the bottom of the hill.

But instead of turning right towards the river runners will turn sharp left and run up Cinder Hill. At the top runners will turn right and run along the path so their backs are to the running track.

After about 200m where the pathways cross runners will continue to run straight ahead keeping their backs to the running track.

When they reach a gate they will turn left and run twice around the large area of a field. Runners will run on a tarmac cycle path on one side of the field and grass on the other three.

The course includes two loops of the field after which runners will ran back along the same track as earlier to Cinder Hill, down the hill and follow the usual route up the hill behind the football pitches, along the out and back and through the usual gate on to the running track.

There will be almost of full lap of the track with the finish line just before the gate.

Officials advise people should not take part with a buggy on this occasion due to the grassy loop around the field which is not conducive to running with a buggy.

It is also advised that people monitor the Bolton parkrun Facebook or Twitter pages on Saturday morning, in case they have to cancel due to bad weather.
