HORWICH juniors had a good presence in the Bolton Schools' representative team at the Greater Manchester Schools cross country championships at Heaton Park.

In the minor girls' race the three Harriers joined with Ruby Erzan-Essien from Bolton United Harriers to take the team title, with Isabella Merritt leading the team home.

In the junior boys' race Louie Johnson, also from Bolton United Harriers, led the team home to take second place with the first of the three Horwich boys being Luke Brindle in a competitive race involving all 10 Greater Manchester boroughs.

In the minor boys' race Cian Healy showed his keen pace to clinch silver in the individual race.

Meanwhile, in the Lancashire Schools Cross Country championships, Milly Lever and Alyssia Jackson ran for Chorley with Alyssia helping the Year 7 girls to the team gold medal.

Horwich RMI runners turned out in force at the popular Mad Dog 10k road race in Southport and showed the camaraderie of the group with many running in pairs for support over a distance new to several of the runners.

Also on the road, but in Lancaster, Erica Booth was second female in the 10k race, while in Blackburn over the same distance Rob Jackson was first MV50 and 18th overall.

It was a relatively quiet week on the fells but club fell captain Andy Ford ran into 36th place over the 19 miles with 3,600 feet ascent Wadsworth Trog race.

Dan Gilbert and Nick Kelly took on the 14 mile/2,400ft ascent Mickleden Straddle race finishing 29th and 43rd respectively.

Graham Schofield continued his quest for the MV60 series prize in the Kendal Winter League by taking first place in the age category at Birkrigg Common.

In parkrun at the junior event in Queens Park, Lucas Collings took 10 seconds off his personal best for first place in 8mins 34secs.

In the senior events Richard Howarth was again first home at Cuerden Valley, known as the Lancashire Tough parkrun with its seven hills.

At Bolton, Michael Cayton set a blistering pace to come home first – a full minute ahead of Lukas Siska in second.

Chris Essex-Crosby was second at Haigh Woodland.
