REIGNING Bolton at Home Sunday League Division One champions Farnworth United beat Division Two champions-elect Manny Road 5-2 after extra time in a thrilling Open Cup tie as the road to the final at the Macron Stadium continued.

Farnworth scored three goals in the last eight minutes to take them through.

Their goals came from Gaz Bentley (two), Marc Queen, John Stephenson and Ash Kirkman, while Edd Morton scored both goals for Manny Road.

The cup also featured a local derby between holders and Division One leaders Queen Anne and third-placed Division Two side Deane FC.

Deane pushed them all the way in this match but the holders ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Mark Truffers and Tom Halligan.

D Havilland progressed into the quarter-finals with a 5-0 victory against Division Two Lostock FC thanks to a superb hat-trick from Connor Cowie.

The other two goals came from Devon Hill and John Harvey and Malcolm Cubbins’ men are now unbeaten in five games.

Top Club travelled to Adlington to play Bridge Celtic in an all-Division One affair, and they travelled back to Little Hulton with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the bag.

It was a close match and with only five minutes to go the score was 1-1.

However, with the game looking like it was going to go into extra time up popped Jordan Deane who slotted the ball past the Bridge goalkeeper to win the game for Top Club. The other goals came from Travis Vaughn and Jake Ross for Bridge Celtic.

When the draw is done there is always an intriguing match and this year was no exception as Bradford Arms A drew their B team.

If the A team thought they would have an easy tie they were mistaken as they were pushed all the way by their B team, winning by the odd goal in a five-goal thriller.

The goals for the A team came from Ryan Fielding (two) and Brad Jackson with Jordan Gerrard and Jack Gerrard replying for the B team.

The last tie was an all Division Two affair between Westhoughton FC and New Bury with the Highfield side running out 6-3 winners.

The goals for Westhoughton came from Eccleshare, Howarth and Dorken. Replying for New Bury were Will Coughlan (two) and Brent Helliwell (four).

Helliwell is becoming the most prolific goalscorer this season in the league – the four he scored at the weekend took his tally for this season to 55 goals.
